The Man Behind Allstate’s Mayhem

What is it about insurance commercials? Geico set the bar high with several years of hilarious spots. And then Allstate introduced the world to Mayhem. The Chicago Tribune talks to the man behind the mayhem, actor Dean Winters, who says his commercial character was initially modeled after Harvey Keitel’s character in “Reservoir Dogs.”  Winter was taking a break from acting when approached by Allstate about starring in the campaign. He says his decision to do it “may be one of the smartest decisions I’ve ever made in my life.” The Tribune says his turn as Mayhem has revived the idea of using bad guys who cause problems that the product being advertised can solve. Oh, and they also say just wait until we see the Mayhem’s latest spot, dubbed the Raccoon.
