Opinion: High Tech Social Security Cards the Way to Immigration Reform

Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer joins Republican Lindsey Graham on the opinion page of this morning’s Washington Post to stump for immigration reform. The senators write that like most Americans, they “oppose illegal immigration and support legal immigration” and outline their four-part plan for reform. Part of their plan for reform includes the introduction of a biometric Social Security card that would allow employers to find out an applicant’s identity and immigration status with one swipe. The rest includes “fulfilling and strengthening our commitments on border security and interior enforcement; creating a process for admitting temporary workers; and implementing a tough but fair path to legalization for those already here.”
