“Lost” Fans Build Defenses Against Online Spoilers

Twice on Friday at NY1, a colleague approached me to stress the importance of not revealing the details of the “Lost” finale on Monday morning. Unable to agree to that, I conceded that a “spoiler alert” would be appropriate for the broadcast. In the New York Times, reporter Jenna Wortham looks at how difficult it’s become for those who are in western time zones (or planning to watch a show later after recording it) to avoid learning the outcome before viewing. Obviously, avoiding Twitter and Facebook from the moment the east coast broadcast begins is the first step. In Europe, several broadcasters have acknowledged the blabbermouths are unavoidable, so they’re just simulcasting the program at 5 am.
