Generous Grandparents a Serious Economic Force


There’s a powerful economic force that’s often overlooked by analysts says the Sacramento Bee: grandparents. The country’s 70 million grandmas and grandpas spent an estimated $52 billion on their grandkids in 2009, according to a recent data collected by AARP. And that’s not just for toys—$17 billion went towards education costs and $10 billion was spent on clothes. Many grandparents say even when money is tight they find a way to provide for their offspring’s offspring.
