Column: Just Let Your Kids Walk to School

Written by Pats Papers | Tuesday, 7 September 2010 6:06 AM

The author who suggested parents leave their kids unsupervised at the playground is back today, with a guest column in the Wall Street Journal. Lenore Skenazy celebrates the first day of school by arguing that kids and parents would be better off if more kids walked to school themselves. She says good parenting has become “over parenting,” and a lot of kids have a perfectly safe and reasonable route to school available to them. What used to be “dismissal” at school is now mostly called “pickup,” with only one in ten kids walking home.
