CBS Reporter Lara Logan Sexually Assaulted in Cairo

A group of 20 to 30 men screaming, “Jew! Jew!” surrounded “60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan as she covered the fall of President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo. In the chaos, Logan was separated from her crew, beaten and sexually assaulted by the men before being rescued by a group of women and Egyptian soldiers reports the New York Post. The above photo was taken moments before the attack. The day before she was attacked, Logan told Esquire.com that she and her crew had been accused of being Israeli spies. The week before the attack, Logan had been detained by Egyptian authorities and thrown out of the country.

CBS decided to go public with the story after it became clear other media outlets were on to it. The CBS camera crew caught Logan “looking tense” just moments before the attack.  According to sources, Logan was flown out of Egypt the day after she was attacked and sent to a hospital to recover, her injuries at the time were described as “serious.” The Washington Post says Logan is now at home with her family.

CBS releasedthis statement yesterday, almost a week after the attack.
