4-Year-Old Iowa Girl Braves Snow to Help Mom, Brother Out of Wreck

After their mother rolled her truck off a snowy road, four-year-old Averie Carrion saw her baby brother bleeding and knew he was in trouble. So she unbuckled her seat belt, got out of the wrecked vehicle and walked more than a quarter-mile in the snow to get help says the Sioux City Journal. She made her way all the way to the nearest farmstead, where the family called rescue workers.

All three Carrions are safe and recovering well. Averie told the local TV station she set out across the dark field because she thought her mom was dead and she wanted to help her brother. The toddler is going from the freezing cold of an Iowa winter to the warm lights of the “Today Show” studio this morning says the Journal, after she became something of a celebrity.
