WSJ Slims Down Front Page Design

The Wall Street Journal’s longstanding “What’s News” box on the front page was slimmed down today.

I noticed the change immediately, and looked back to Friday’s paper. Sure enough, it was two columns on Friday. But it sounds like the rundown of the day’s top national and international stories is being permanently demoted to a single column. On Friday, Capital New York reported that senior Journal employees were briefed on the page one change in a conference call.

What's New: Wall Street Journal

The once-distinctive look of the front page of the Journal has changed significantly under News Corp. ownership. The black and white illustrations and single-column articles have mostly been replaced by a more typical broadsheet layout.
