Monday the Most Popular Day to Break Up

Breaking up may be hard to do…but lots of people manage to do it. And thanks to Facebook, we now know when they’re more apt to do it. Basically, this guy mined the relationship status field of thousands of Facebook users to find out if any patterns presented themselves. And they did.

Breakups, it seems, tend to mirror the college calendar. There were big spikes before Spring Break and the Christmas holiday. It also appears that people like to start off summer vacation unattached. And if you’re expecting a change in your own relationship status, Monday is the day to let the world know.

David McCandless is the man who created the graph. His website has lots of other cool infographs to check out. He first revealed his Facebook graph at a TED presentation in August:
