TV Opinion: JR Ewing a ‘Well-Oiled’ Villain

In the New York Daily News this morning, David Hinckley writes about the late, great Larry Hagman, and why JR Ewing was a TV villian for the ages. Hinckley says it would be nearly impossible to create another JR because of two reasons: the world of TV is too fragmented these days to create a cult figure like Ewing and more importantly, our attitudes toward villains have changed. Says Hinckley: “Good villains need time to develop and in today’s short-attention span culture, we don’t like to wait.”
