There’s a New Elvis in Town

Written by Pat's Papers | Wednesday, 18 August 2010 8:40 AM

A new king has entered the building. The Oregonian profiles this year’s winner of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute contest, a local man named Justin Shandor. Shandor beat out 22 other singers to claim the title last week. After decades of discouraging Elvis impersonators, the company that controls his image launched the contest back in 2007. Shandor says he’s been employed as an Elvis impersonator since he was 16.His strategy for winning was “to tell the story of Elvis with songs from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.”  In addition to $20,000, he received “a metal belt with a crystal-studded buckle the size of an iPad.”
