The Traffic Light Diet

Written by Pat's Papers | Saturday, 13 March 2010 10:11 AM

You should approach a diet like you approach a traffic light says Chicago Tribune health columnist Julie Deardorff. There are green light foods, which should make up the bulk of your daily intake, yellow light foods, which should be eaten cautiously and red light foods, which should bring you to a full stop - except for that rare occasion when you decide to run through them.  Deardorff says the traffic light analogy has been used in the UK for years to help consumers make good nutrition choice. A new children’s book based on the strategy makes healthy eating simple for children to grasp: Green (Go!), Yellow (Slow!) and Red (Uh-Oh!).
