“The Nuke Next Door”

I generally consider nuclear power a safe option if well operated, but a story in today’s Washington Post makes me a little nervous. Under the headline “The Nuke Next Door,” the Post says miniature nuclear reactors are the wave of the future. Public fear about nuclear power has ebbed since the Chernobyl disaster in the 1980s; many people see it as an acceptably green alternative to coal. Building on the changing views, lots of companies are developing “mini reactors” to provide power to small areas. The idea is an extensive of the “think locally” fervor that has taken hold of America says the Post.
