Olympic Team of One

Written by Pat's Papers | Wednesday, 24 February 2010 7:59 AM

Turns out there is an ‘I’ in team. The New York Times profiles skier Marino Cardelli in this morning’s paper. Cardelli is the entire Olympic team for his country, the republic of San Marino, which has a population of 30,000. The Times says Cardelli is what is referred to as an “Olympic tourist,” someone who has a small chance of winning or even finishing. Other “tourists” include the famed Jamaican bobsled team which competed in Calgary in 1988.
