The Miami Herald says the Super Bowl is the only sporting event that reaches the status of national holiday. But how is it that an event that’s only XLIV years old command such attention? Writer David Neal picks the seven events that transformed the Super Bowl. Among them: Apple Computer’s 1984 commercial, which kicked off the era of big budget commercials that, for some, is an even bigger attraction than the game itself.
