Super Bowl Ads An Exercise in Nostalgia
Written by Pat's Papers | Monday, 8 February 2010 7:18 AM

The Super Bowl is the only televised event I can think of where watching the commercials is as exciting as the event itself. And this year proved to be no exception. USA Today has an excellent roundup of this year’s ads, and says Snickers came out on top with a spot featuring Betty White. The paper says it was “sweet revenge” for the Mars company, who had received flak three years ago for a Super Bowl ad that some interpreted as anti-gay.
Stuart Elliot of the New York Times says nostalgia was the reigning theme of last night’s commercials. In addition to veteran actors like White, Elliot writes that “enough vintage athletes” were featured “to fill a locker room.”
