Marine archeologists are ecstatic after finding a sunken whaling ship from the 1800s off the coast of Hawaii says the Honolulu Star Advertiser. It’s the first ever to be discovered. And according to the Boston Globe, the discovery will “complete the tale of a famously cursed captain,” George Pollard Jr., who was the inspiration for “Moby Dick.” Pollard was the commander of the Essex when it sunk, inspiring Melville to write his famous tale. He went on to command another Nantucket whaler, the Two Brothers, which is the one just discovered off Hawaii’s coast.
