Skip the Green Beer and Pick Up a Pickle Jar

We’ve got a week to go before St. Patrick’s Day and already the crazy drink stories are filling up newspaper pages. The Washington Post says instead of downing green beer or a “Shamrock Shake,” why not try something called a Pickleback. Basically it’s a shot of Irish whiskey followed by a chaser of pickle juice. Now is it me or does that sound just as crazy as a green beer? Apparently, it’s me. Writer Jason Wilson says “brine and whiskey make one of those mysteriously wonderful combinations, and it doesn’t hurt that pickle juice is second to none in preventing dehydration.”
