Rutgers Introduces “Gender-Neutral Housing”

Written by Pat's Papers | Tuesday, 1 March 2011 11:58 AM

In an attempt to make their campus more friendly to gay students, Rutgers University will start allowing students to room with members of the opposite sex next fall reports the Newark Star-Ledger. My guess is that gay students won’t be the only ones in support of the policy. The rule change will also allow heterosexual students to live with “their boyfriends, girlfriends or platonic friends of the opposite sex.”

The Ledger says gay activists have campaigned for “gender-neutral housing” for years without success. School administrators decided to test out the idea after an 18-year-old student jumped to his death last year as the result of homophobic taunts.
