Reporters Upset CNN Gives Larry King Job to “Non-Journalist”

It’s official: Piers Morgan is set to take over when Larry King exits the studio later this year. Now the question is, does he have what it takes to fill the world’s most iconic pair of suspenders? The Washington Post‘s Lisa de Moraes says CNN focused on Morgan’s journalism background, calling him a “global media personality” and “veteran newspaper editor,” instead of on his recent turn as judge of America’s Got Talent, arguably the venue that made him a household name in most of the country.

Apparently, Morgan and CNN boss Jon Klein got put through the ringer by entertainment reporters who questioned the decision to give such a coveted job to a “non-journalist.” In response, Morgan reminded the reporters that he was a journalist for 25 years in the UK before his stint as talent judge. He also hosted a Larry King-esque interview program called “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.”
