Playstation Hacker Pulls Off Huge Heist

The San Jose Mercury News reports that a Playstation hacker may have pulled off the biggest theft ever, stealing the personal information of 77 million customers, half of whom live in the US. Even more disturbing: Playstation says the hacker may have also accessed “users’ credit card numbers and expiration dates, billing addresses and transaction records.” Security expert say Sony took its whole system offline for days after the attack, which happen between April 17 and 19—an unprecedented move. Sony says it is in the process of personally email the 77 milliion user that were affected.

Gizmodo has some insight as to why it took Sony seven days to alert its customers of perhaps the biggest online security breach of all time.
