Opinion: “The Republican Threat to Voting”
Written by Pat's Papers | Wednesday, 27 April 2011 8:18 AM

The New York Times has a well-presented editorial in today’s paper about the “Republican threat to voting.” New laws pushed by Republican governors and state legislators are making it harder for certain groups that tend to vote Democratic—the young, the poor and African-Americans—to cast their ballots. More than 30 states are considering or have passed laws that would require a government-issued ID to vote. A proposal in Wisconsin would prohibit students from using their school IDs, even if they are issued by a state university; in Texas would also reject student IDs but would allow anyone with a handgun permit to vote.
