Opinion: Romney’s ‘Astonishingly Low” Tax Rate
Written by Pat's Papers | Tuesday, 2 October 2012 7:50 AM

The New York Times is hitting Mitt Romney with a direct attack on the way he’s avoided taxes over the years. The front-page story says the Times reviewed “thousands of pages of financial documents” to learn more about how Romney was either able to avoid or reduce his taxes before broadening to ask how Bain Capital’s tax structure may have benefitted the company and in turn put more money in Romney’s pockets.
Inside, an editorial calls Romney’s tax rate “astonishingly low.” The Times says its research has not uncovered illegal behavior from Romney—but rather has highlighted the way the tax system provides loopholes to the rich that aren’t available to everybody else.
