Opinion: Opportunity Gap Widens, Drastic Measures Needed

Some depressing statistics about America’s widening “opportunity gap”—especially its impact on our children—prompted the New York Times’s David Brooks to pen a column, challenging politicians to make some “uncomfortable decisions.” To ensure equal opportunity remains part of our national identity, he says, liberals will have to support a platform of marriage before childbearing and conservatives must accept tax increases so more can be spent on programs that benefit the working class.
