Op-Ed: Why Roberts Upheld Obamacare

The Supreme Court upheld President Obama’s health-care bill yesterday, in a 5-4 decision. Chief Justice John Roberts surprised nearly everyone as he joined his more liberal colleagues in supporting the legislation. Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer says Roberts was able to do so and uphold the conservative objections to the bill by “pulling off one of the great constitutional finesses of all time.” The New York Times’ Paul Krugman says forget about the politics behind the bill, yesterday was “a victory for due process, decency and the American people.”
