Only in Texas: Chicken Fried Steak Day
Written by Pat's Papers | Friday, 26 October 2012 6:29 AM

Yes, today is Friday. But for Texans, it’s also a major holiday: Chicken Fried Steak Day. The Lubbock Avalanche Journal says the state legislature passed House Resolution 1419 last year, making it official. The paper says there are many theories about how the down-home classic came to be, the most popular involve cowboys and a “Teutonic chef who wanted to make Wiener schnitzel, but had no veal.” Either way, the official word is that you should always eat your chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and okra, and finish it off with a scoop of peach cobbler.
