They’ve literally reinvented the wheel. The New York Times says MIT scientists have figured out a way to capture the energy that’s normally wasted when a bicyclist brakes. The energy is stored in a specially designed wheel until the biker needs a “boost.” Scientists used the same technology hybrid cars rely upon to collect and store energy. But the Times says there is one road block standing in the way of the wheel’s success: convincing simplicity-coveting bicyclists that the innovation is something they need.
