Nadal Becomes Youngest Grand Slam Winner

Written by Pat's Papers | Tuesday, 14 September 2010 7:35 AM

In his first appearance at a US Open final, Rafael Nadal made history, becoming the youngest man to win a career Grand Slam at the age of 24. Roger Federer was 27 when he clenched his Grand Slam. This morning, the New York Times officially declares it the season of Nadal. His 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 win at last night’s US Open final proved to his critics that “there are no limits to his range or appetite.” Nadal took on 23-year-old Novak Djokovic from Serbia, who, the Times says, made him work hard for the victory.

Despite Nadal’s historic win, ESPN pulled its coverage of the match, choosing instead to air a humdrum NFL games. I was so angry about the decision, I wrote a blog about it.

My beef with ESPN wasn’t the only kerfuffle at this year’s US Open. Remember the fight that broke out in the stands early in the tournament, which a fan happened to catch on video.
