Movie Puts Stuttering In Spotlight

I saw “The King’s Speech” this weekend and I highly recommend it. It’s about King George VI of England and his struggle with stuttering. Traditionally thought of as a psychological condition, USA Today says now scientists believe stuttering is caused by a mix of genes and stress.

The LA Times also has a long feature on stuttering in its health section this morning. About five percent of children begin life with some sort of stutter; by the time they’ve reached adulthood, that percentage is one.
