Money Can Buy Happiness

Turns out, money can buy happiness—up to a certain point. According to the LA Times, a new study released in the latest Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that the happiness of people increased as their annual salary increased. But once the number hit $75,000, the relationship between quality of life and income level flatlined. One of the study’s authors explained their findings this way: “Perhaps $75,000 is a threshold beyond which further increases in income no longer improve individuals’ ability to do what matters most to their emotional well-being, such as spending time with people they like, avoiding pain and disease, and enjoying leisure.”
