Meg Whitman Excused From Jury Duty

Written by Pat's Papers | Friday, 3 September 2010 9:35 AM

Guess what words California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman did not want to hear as the hotly contested race to replace Gov. Schwarzenegger heats up? You’ve got jury duty. The Palo Alto Daily News says the former CEO of EBay mulled over whether she’d serve as a juror in a controversial child molestation case until a defense attorney asked that she be excused. That’s a lucky break says the Daily News, as Whitman was weighing whether the appearance that she was shirking her civic duty would do more harm than a prolonged absence on the campaign trail.

Whitman told the courtroom that it’s “not a good time for me to give 100 percent.” After a defense attorney questioned how focused she could be given her current situation, Whitman continued, saying, “I would try my very best. Whether it is the right time for me is another question.”
