Meat Photos Have Veggie Website “Eating Crow”

Editors at VegNews, a San Francisco-based “vegetarian lifestyle magazine,” are eating crow, says the New York Times, after it was discovered that they had been using stock images of meat dishes to accompany supposedly vegan recipes. Apparently, editors would airbrush the photos—take the bones out of ribs, etc—to appear as if they were meat-less. Their “gastronomical subterfuge” was discovered after a reader found the same images accompanying other Internet recipes. One irate online commenter said it was an awful feeling “to have craved any of the foods featured here, because now I feel I was craving animals.” In response, the editors released this statement: “I do want to apologize to the vegetarian and vegan community for our oversight, we’re going to make an effort to publish nothing but vegan photography.”
