Man Rides Lawnmower Across Country

At seven miles an hour, Lucas Van Engen had lots of time to take in his surroundings. The actor was hired by Craftsman to drive a riding lawnmower across the country says the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Wisconsin-based Kohler made the vehicle’s V-twin engine. After 99 days on the road, Van Engen says he’s learned a few piece of invaluable information—like where the country’s oldest bartender lives and how to use blades to scare away curious dogs. Despite the tedium of his job, Van Engen says he felt the most sorry for the folks tailing him in an RV: “They had the worst job. Cruise control doesn’t kick in at 7 miles per hour.”

It took me a minute to remember the title, but when I saw this story I immediately thought of the David Lynch movie “The Straight Story.”
