Lou Gehrig May Not Have Had Lou Gehrig’s Disease
Written by Pat's Papers | Wednesday, 18 August 2010 8:28 AM

Turns out, Lou Gehrig may not have had Lou Gehrig’s disease. New research from Boston University indicates that athletes who suffer multiple head injuries are at risk of developing a neurological disease that is similar to Lou Gehrig’s disease. The researchers found a protein, called tau, that is usually not associated with ALS in the brains of three former athletes thought to have the disease. The Boston Globe says the findings have prompted some to wonder whether the baseballer ever suffered from the disease. Unfortunately, Gehrig was cremated so the truth will likely remain a mystery.
