Lawmakers Spend Close to Home

Wondering what lawmakers are spending money on? Turns out, the answer’s simple: themselves. According to a Washington Post investigation, about $300 million in earmarks have been doled out for public projects that are “next to or within about two miles of the lawmakers’ own property.” That includes $6.3 million to renovate a beach within 900 feet of congressman’s cottage, and $486,000 to build a bike lane next to another’s Michigan home.
