Is the R.S.V.P. Dead?

Written by Pat's Papers | Monday, 15 March 2010 7:02 AM

Is it irrational to expect people to R.S.V.P in this day and age? There’s an excellent opinion piece in the New York Times this morning about the death of the R.S.V.P. After some amateur sampling, writer Rand Richards Cooper, asks “what’s preventing us from executing this basic social task?” Is it that Evites are too informal? Or is it just that modern life requires our plans to “remain flexy?” Either way, Cooper suggests a new acronym for the modern host - the R.V.O.M. For those who don’t speak French, Répondez Vite, ou Mourir translates to Respond Quickly, or Die.
