Is it 1861 all over again? That’s the question in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution this morning, after more than 25,000 Georgians have signed an online petition asking to secede from the Union. Prompted by President Obama’s re-election, supporters of the petition say their motives aren’t racially motivated, but rather by a desire to show the current administration that they’re unhappy. Experts say before anyone starts getting nervous, it’s important to look not at how many people have signed the petition, but at how many millions have not.
