Hotels Want TripAdvisor to Rein In Comments

The cacophony of online reviews has gotten so loud, and at times, so close to libel, that some hotel owners fear for their reputation. The New York Times says they want TripAdvisor, a clearing house of travel bookings, to do a better job monitoring the comments posted on their site.  A lawsuit against TripAdvisor is in the works—once the case’s lawyer whittles down to 800 businesses clamoring to be litigants. Although websites are rarely held accountable for third-party posts, Trip Advisor sends out email blasts advertising “Hotel Horror Stories,” which a court could see as endorsing them by default.

Here‘s an example of a “Hotel Horror Story” from TripAdvisor, about a place in London called the Queens Hotel Crystal Palace
