Fried Bubblegum

Written by Pat's Papers | Tuesday, 6 September 2011 11:36 AM

Fried jelly beans didn’t do it. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram says it took an order of fried bubble gum to take home the Texas State Fair’s coveted “most creative food” prize. Yes, that’s right: fried bubble gum. Actually, it was more like the essence of bubble gum. The winning recipe featured “bubblegum-flavored marshmallows dipped in batter, fried and decorated with icing and powdered sugar.” Some of the other contenders: Deep Fried Pineapple Upside Down Cake; Deep Fried Texas Salsa and something called the The Walking Taco, “seasoned hamburger meat, lettuce, onion, fresh tomato, grated cheese, sour cream and salsa served in a nacho cheese-flavored Doritos bag.”
