Fidel’s Closet

The Miami Herald analyzes the fashion choices of an unlikely candidate in today’s paper: Fidel Castro. They say his frequent wardrobe switches, from “post-surgery pajamas in 2006 to track suits from 2007 to 2009, then casual sports clothes and now military garb for the past 10 weeks,” are highly symbolic and indicate he is taking steps to reclaim his position of power.

Specifically, a hotbed of speculation has erupted over the addition of a small silver star to his favorite hat. Explains one radio journalist: “The star is to remind people of that classic image, of what he’s always been—a revolutionary.’‘

Pictures from the Havana Journal of Castro meeting with Hugo Chavez and sporting a bold gingham shirt. Wonder what that means.
