This is a (Text) Message from the President
Written by Pat's Papers | Tuesday, 10 May 2011 7:17 AM

“This is a message from the President.” OMG. Talk about a serious text message. USA Today says a new emergency alert system is being unveiled today in New York and Washington DC. Cell phone customers can opt out of a second tier of alerts but ones on the Presidential level will be automatically sent to all phones. It’s the modern equivalent of the emergency broadcast system. but will allow officials to “send geographically targeted text messages” instead of broad radio and TV alerts. The rest of country should have the system, called Personal Localized Alerting Network or PLAN, in place by 2012.
