Ebert: Ten Oscar Nominees But Only Five “Real” Ones

The Academy chose to nominate 10 films this year in the Best Picture category. But Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times says to unveil the five “real” nominations, cross reference them with the list of Best Director nominees. By Ebert’s logic that means the competition is between “Avatar,” “Hurt Locker,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Precious” and “Up in the Air.” USA Today says the Academy was on “lockdown” before yesterday’s announcement. That meant no cellphones, Internet access and guards stand[ing] sentry at the doors.”
