Did the Number 4 Curse the iPhone?
Written by Pat's Papers | Friday, 16 July 2010 9:10 AM

From the suicide of a worker to the host of reception problem to a looming recall, the debut of the latest iPhone has been so riddled with problems that some are beginning to think it’s cursed. The LA Times says in China, where the phones are manufactured, the number 4 connotes bad luck because it is similar to the word for death. Chinese people go out of their way to avoid the number and other companies like Nokia and Canon have been known to skip from 3 to 5 when assigning numbers to their products. Apparently, Apple didn’t get the memo. The paper talked to a professor of Chinese studies who says there’s probably more to Apple’s problems than just a bout of bad luck but still she says, “maybe people should avoid iPhone 13 when it gets here.”
