Harry Whittington has a “slight flutter” to his voice, says the Washington Post, caused by the lead pellet that’s lodged in his larnyx. That would be the lead pellet Dick Cheney shot him with during a quail hunting expedition four years ago. While both the White House and Cheney maintain the shooting was an accident, Whittington says all he remembers from that day is “the smell of burning powder.” He suffered dozens of pellets wounds, some still lodged inside his face and body. The Post turns up some other interesting discrepancies about the accident but what I found most fascinating: Cheney never apologized.
