Cisco Shuts Flip Video Business

Written by Pat's Papers | Wednesday, 13 April 2011 7:28 AM

“Four Years From Start-Up to Obsolete.” That’s what the New York Times writes about Cisco’s somewhat baffling decision to shut down its Flip video camera business. I know people who love their flip cameras. But the Times says the rise of the smartphone is what did them in.

Insiders say the decision might also be an admission that Cisco took a misstep acquiring the brand back in 2009. Not known for consumer products, the company was “swayed by the sexiness of selling to the consumer.” Cisco says it will still support the Flip video sharing website for existing users.
