“Christo Vs. Colorado”

The artist who famously draped Central Park in saffron-colored fabric five years ago has a new project in the pipeline. But the Wall Street Journal says environmentalists in Colorado object to Christo’s plan to cover a section of the Arkansas River in metallic fabric, saying the project would clog traffic and scare wildlife. This is not the first project to receive push back—it took 24 years for a plan to cover a German building in cloth to be realized—but it’s the first time Christo’s had to deal with the naysayers on his own. Traditionally, Jean-Claude, his wife and collaborator, dealt with the red tape says the Journal but she died last year, leaving him to work alone for the first time in more than half a century.
