China Could Aid Acceptance Genetically Modified Crops

Genetically modified crops have long been a source of contention. But USA Today says the recent announcement by China that it has approved modified corn and rice plants, could lead to a “broader acceptance of the 16-year-old technology.” American farmers are increasingly embracing genetically modified crops, “arguing they protect the environment by decreasing pesticide use and making no-till crops (where the soil is not plowed) possible.” That’s different from the view in Europe where the EU has banned genetically modified crops because of their potential to create “ecological and health nightmares.”
