Casting Period Pieces a Challenge in Piercings Era

Daniel Day-Lewis portrays Abe Lincoln “more accurately than the head of a penny,” says the LA Times. Except, for his earring holes. It’s especially hard to make a period drama in an age of “teeth whitening, plastic surgery, body piercings, weight training, healthful eating and yoga.” One casting director describes her strategy as one that avoids LA:  “English teeth are famously bad… If I go to lunch in a restaurant in London, there aren’t many people who’ve had their faces reconstructed. In L.A., nearly everybody has. In England, it’s easier to find interesting-looking people.”
