Can Social Networks Cure Us of Bad Habits?

Habits are contagious—when your friends smoke, you tend to as well. That’s a premise multiple studies have recently proven. The LA Times says scientists now believe that social networks could play a huge role in reforming unhealthy habits. Two approaches are being floated: The first is to create “artificial social groups” like Weight Watchers. The second and more interesting one is to use sites like Facebook to encourage the most vocal members of a social network to send out messages that promote healthy living.
