California, Illinois Top Dog Bite States

Looking to avoid a dog bite? Then avoid California and Illinois says the Chicago Tribune, which ranked number one and two on State Farm’s list of states with highest dog-bite claims. It’s the first time the insurer has put together the list, which interestingly doesn’t seem correlated to population size. Minnesota, for example, which ranks 21st in population, came in eighth in dog bites. Florida won the distinction of most expensive payouts, with the highest per incident totals. State Farm says in paid out $90 million in dog-bite claims in 2010.
